This is the story of the Christchurch Environment Centre, the first Centre of its kind in Aotearoa/NZ. The Centre celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2003.

This documentary film came out of a series of oral history interviews with several peace activists, covering 1938-1999. Those interviewed talk about their personal stories covering topics such as being imprisoned as a pacifist for the duration of WW2, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in the 1950s, the Peace Squadron in the 1970s and 80s, New Zealand's Nuclear-Free protest movement, the sinking of the Greenpeace flagship - the Rainbow Warrior in 1985, the campaign for a Nuclear Free Pacific, the World Court Peace project, and the USA invasion on Iraq in the early 1990s.

Trade Aid - The first ten years (2015)
Tapestries was commissioned to record the stories of Trade Aid's founding members to mark the 40th anniversary since the creation of Trade Aid in 1973. I interviewed six people for this project.
Trade Aid is a social enterprise creating fairness in trade. Trade Aid supports small food and craft producers around the world.

Remembering The Rainbow Warrior - Radio documentary for Spectrum, Radio NZ
Tapestries were commissioned by Radio NZ to research, interview, record and produce a documentary to acknowledge the 25th anniversary of the bombing of the Greenpeace flagship 'The Rainbow Warrior', in 2005.
Ruth produced two other radio documentaries for RNZ around this time also focussing on the issue of peace: 'The bomb that changed the world' - remembering the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, and 'Artists of the nuclear-free movement in Aotearoa/ NZ'. Ruth then went on to record an interview with Jack Perkins (photo left), a co-founder of the iconic radio documentary programme - 'Spectrum'. This interview was commissioned by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage. Alwyn Owen and Jack Perkins began Spectrum in 1972. During its first 20 years or so, the series often included first-hand accounts of New Zealand life as far back as the 1890s and is recognised as one of New Zealand’s most valuable libraries of oral history. Visit the RNZ website to find out more about Spectrum HERE RNZ said a fond farewell to Spectrum in 2016, but you can continue to enjoy many hours of listening via the RNZ website.
