I remember sitting with my grandmothers (image), looking through photo albums and trying to imagine what each of their lives must have been like (born 1908 and 1913).
I went on to study New Zealand, Australian and Pacific history at Victoria University as well as theatre and women's studies. I've always enjoyed writing, acting and telling stories. I've since worked with families preserving stories for future generations, as well as migrants and refugees, Holocaust survivors, activists and various community organisations and a corporate business.
I also have over 30 years working within the NGO sector in areas of online digital storytelling, recorded histories, and legacy mapping projects. I have seen how stories bring to life the community's in which we live.
Oral history enables us to document and chronicle people's stories, which might otherwise not get included in the historical record.
